Restaurants
The Tahoe Food Hub
The Tahoe Food Hub Farm Shop offers weekly produce featuring local, sustainably grown fruits and veggies from more than 25 farms within 100 minutes of North Lake Tahoe. Truckee Foothill Farmers’ Market operates a Certified California-Grown Farmers’ Market, where California farmers sell their products and makers sell their baked goods and prepared foods.
Drunken Monkey
Chef Sam Okamoto’s Truckee restaurant offers an eclectic menu of both traditional Japanese sushi and emerging cuisine from Hong Kong, Beijing and South Korea. We love the grilled salmon belly, salmon collar, Korean kimchi and Chef’s specialty Kyushustyle ramen: its rich, flavorful pork-based stock takes 18 hours to prepare. Local, organic and sustainable products are on the menu and cocktails are suitably exotic. Ask barkeep Katie Livingstone to mix you up a Chili Lime Cilantro Shochu cocktail, served with a hibiscus-salted rim – spicy, sweet and salty all in one. Flights of cold sake are a must.
The Truckee Tavern and Grill
The Truckee Tavern and Grill, one of the newest restaurants in downtown Truckee, has a cozy-cool rustic ambiance and woodfired cuisine that’s quickly made it a favorite. Local produce and hormone-free meats are featured; Bourbon and Burger night has become a local go-to. Cocktails are creative and the bar offers 50 craft whiskeys and 25 small-batch gins. Try the Silver Mirror – gin, rosemary, elderflower, lemon and bitters – or the Wilke Cup (made with rye, basil, maple and the bitter aromatic Fernet), an ode to the merchant who once owned the building where the Tavern sits today. Live music on Thursdays.
Dinner Series – Lake Mary Cabin
Dining on Donner Summit overlooking Lake Mary is a grand way to spend an evening. Sugar Bowl Resort hosts the beautiful patio dinners, which support a different local non-profit organization each week. Work up an appetite with a hike up the Mount Judah Loop from the Pacific Crest Trail and then tuck into a great dinner in support of the local community.
The Seasoned Sage - 4 Course Cooking Class
The Seasoned Sage offers in-home cooking instruction that includes a four-course meal with menus and recipes. Invite friends and open a bottle of vino; Chef creates a themed party and menu to accompany your dinner party and offers three hours of instruction. Themes include veggie cooking for carnivores, organic ethnic and paleo cooking, among others.
Stella Restaurant
Stella Restaurant is dead! Long live Stella Underground Dinners and Hands-on Cooking Classes! When the much-loved Truckee restaurant closed this spring, regulars began signing up for Stella reborn as a key educational resource. You can accompany chef Jacob Burton to the Truckee Farmers‘ Market, have an underground ramen dinner or go all out at Culinary Boot Camp. Want to think like chef? This is the chef to follow.
Truckee River Winery
At Truckee River Winery, good wine and bocce go hand in hand. The family-owned winery, the highest and coldest in the US, has produced an award-winning Pinot Noir while being dedicated to preserving the local environment and providing a quality product for locals and visitors alike. After a rousing game of bocce, enjoy a flight of wine, a cheese platter from a local farm and famous Truckee sourdough bread.
